Lately in the past few days people have been in towns and posts saying "WTB factions account of wts" later on, they cry because they are scammed for like 100k or whatever. Then they go on begging for money.... Yesterday in ascalon i was giving away some blues i had recently farmed to new guys. a couple people messaged me and asked for money, i told them no. I asked why they needed it, they replied they were scammed for an account.

I have decided to make a list of things to watch out for when buying / selling.

I went around saying WTB account ( just to see how the people act) and got a couple people. i asked how much for it he said 20k.. this leads me to my first point and second point.

1. DO NOT BUY ACCOUNTS IN GUILD WARS.
2. if they are selling extremely low(such as 20k) they are scamming.

So i asked how he wanted to do this ( 10k isnt much of a loss for me), he said half and half, i acted like i was worried and crap, he says, no i wont scam, i do this for a living. (lol a living? wow pretty lame).so i pay 10k, check the account then pay rest. i knew what was going to happen. i screen the conversation and trade window, give him the 10k... ill tell you what i do later.

3. They are going to run off when you do this, ignore you, log out, or deny they scammed you.

I send this into anet, da da da, do all that other stuff, they send me a message the guy got banned for a week.

. well after this, i was selling some stuff i farmed, ill list what to watch out for, i know this has been posted many times but im saying it again.

4. double check the box no matter what, another 2 seconds to chec will be worth it.

5. make sure its the right item, the skin may be the same, but the item isnt. like altheas ashes and glittering dust.

6. if you are selling for say 4k, make sure its in the plat box not gold.

7. do not pay upfront for anything, unless they give it to you in the trade. (example: give me the money and ill go get the sword from my guildie and give you it). <dont fall for that, have him trade it in the screen when you pay.

8. last one, do not scam, it is not worth it, you will get banned permanently or maybe for a few days. AND DO NOT BUY ANY ACCOUNTS OFF GW. securely do it from plaync or go to a store and buy it.

Like i said before, i know this and how to advoid scams had been posted before, but i want to remind people what to watch out for.
In every game, there are people that will try to scam or "be your friend" just to get stuff. dont fall for this, and hopefully this list could somehow help you.

I'm not quite sure what you were saying happened here. you said you "check the account", implying you actually logged onto the account he was saying he'd give you, then you relogged and payed him another 10k? Did he just give you the password to his account and not change the email or something? You said something about them running away when you try and pay them the second installment, but I don't understand why they'd run from an extra 10k if they have you convinced the account is yours.

Good food for thought.

I tend to have a habit of PMing people saying "WTB/S GW Account!" and telling them that it's a bannable offenses. Surprisingly I get more "Oh Sh*t, thanks for waring me!" responses than I do "STFU N00b" ones.

My advice is to just not buy or sell them. Come what may.

(Though I was in ascalon and someone was asking if anyone had 1k. So being nice I gave it to him. Suddenly I had a bunch of people pvting me begging for 1k also. One person wanted to make the other jealous by having 1k ect... kind of unrelated but it was lame all the same.)

BTW ANet doesn't disclose the details of what happens to the individual, so you don't recieve an e-mail telling you they have been banned.

no i didnt check it he just said to log in and look at it, it was a fake though, said no such email, thats what i meant, i actually didnt log into it, sorry for not explinaing that

If I ever was so bored of GW that I didn't want to play it anymore, what the heck would I do with the in-game gold I get for selling it?

Um A.net DOES NOT send you what happens to the person you reported. They simply say they will look INTO IT and you the sender would not know the outcome.

Someone tried hitting me with this not too long ago. I was selling a 5k item. The guy didn't even haggle for less, he just asked me how much I'm going for and said he'd take it. We went tot he trade screen, i placed the axe and he places the money. Only the number "5" was not on the plat area. I saw this and he was like "woops." Afterward he said it wasn't worth it.

...I don't think he had 5k. He was just trying to trick me. Good thing I got a good eye.

I didn't read your whole post and I'm going to. I read up to the part where you said "I got a message from anet saying they banned him for a week."

Anet will not inform on whether or not they decide to take action against the player you have reported. You recieve only a confirmation email that they have received the report.

Not everyoen is as lucky as u to not get scammed. If gw was reminicinet of real life, itd be the equivalent of living in [put in name of crime filled neighborhood/city]. yes there are some good ppl out there but alot are assholes. I personally have been scammed several hundred k by ppl. if u want soem names, pm me ingame but i cant gvie names on forums. the op put a good guide. should be stickied so noobies will know wut to look out for before its too late.
